Things to know:
Carl Eduard Ahrendts (April 5, 1822 in The Hague, Netherlands – February 26, 1898 in The Hague, Netherlands) was a Dutch, self-taught landscape painter. He painted finely detailed, romantic summer and winter landscapes, beach scenes, and cityscapes, primarily in The Hague. His works were exhibited in Amsterdam and The Hague, among other places. Although it is not conclusively proven that he was a student of Barend C. Koekkoek, his works are at least strongly influenced by him.

"Art only comes into being in the eyes and hearts of the respective beholders. For it is not the inspiration, the creativity, the impulsiveness of the artist that truly reaches them, but only what they want to see, sense, feel, or invent when they look at it."
